To coincide with the visit of Prof. Kirill Solonin of Renmin University in January, the Council of East Asian Studies at Yale is hosting a workshop on Tangut Studies starting at 5:00 PM on January 19th (in room 203 Luce Hall, 34 Hillhouse Avenue, New Haven, CT 06511) and concluding at 5:00 PM on January 20th

The workshop is open to the public, but advanced registration is required; please register at eastasian.studies@yale.edu.

Friday, January 19:

5:00 PM: Kirill Solonin: Introduction to Tangut Finds and Their Significance

6:30 PM: Reception for participants

Saturday, January 20:

9:00 AM: We will have three speakers: 

  1. Kirill Solonin on Tangut Religion
  2. Yong Cho (Yale) on Tangut Art
  3. Xin Wen (Princeton) on Tangut documents (household registers?). 

François Louis (Bard Graduate Center), Mimi Yiengpruksawan (Yale), and Valerie Hansen (Yale) will briefly comment on the presentations and start the Q+A.

12:30 PM: Lunch for participants

1:30 PM - 5:00 PM: Kirill Solonin will lead the participants in reading several bilingual passages in in Tangut and Chinese.

The conference will end at 5:00 PM.
