Hong Kong barrister and former legislative council member Margaret Ng will deliver the inaugural Hong Friends of Yale Fund Lecture on Monday, Feb. 16.
Titled “Hong Kong Under China – Challenges to the Rule of Law and Judicial Independence, the talk will take place at 4 p.m. in the auditorium of Henry R. Luce Hall, 34 Hillhouse Ave. Sponsored by the Council on East Asian Studies (CEAS), the lecture will also be available to view as a live webcast on Yale’s YouTube Station.
A barrister in private practice, Ng was formerly a member of the legislative council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region representing the Legal Functional Constituency (1995-2012). She has a long list of past service in public committees, including the Central Policy Unit (1989-90) and the operation review committee of the ICAC (1999-2004). Ng was appointed deputy editor-in-chief of Ming Pao Daily news from 1986 to 1987, and its publisher from 1988 to 1990. A noted commentator and writer in both English and Chinese, Ng is the author of more than 12 Chinese titles.
