Xiaoqing Luo is interested in gender history in Japan and China. As an undergraduate in Smith College, she took courses of Japanese and Chinese history as well as literature, and spent one semester in Kyoto Doshisha University in her senior year. Xiaoqing has great interest in female scholars and reformers who have been overshadowed or ostracized by their male contemporaries, especially figures in late nineteenth century and early twentieth century. During her leisure time, she often watches Japanese animations, reads Japanese manga and plays games. She also likes to carve stamps and collect masking tapes.
