Qifan has been conducting fieldwork in an African immigrant settlement on Xiaobei Road in Guangzhou for an extended period. It has always been his dream to utilize his knowledge of anthropology to bring about positive change in his community. Having studied at Beijing Normal University - Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (UIC), he had the opportunity to collaborate with scholars and experts in history and urban studies from both Hong Kong and Mainland China. In recognition of his research on Chinese migrant cultures, he was awarded the Mr. Fung Sun Kwan Scholarship of Excellence at UIC in 2021. He aspires to gain historical anthropological research methods through his studies in the Master of East Asian Studies program at Yale. These methods will enable him to analyze how China’s management of African migrant ontologies has influenced fluid border narratives. Furthermore, it will support his future work at the International Peace Foundation in combatting migrant discrimination. Aside from his academic pursuits, he is an avid skier who hopes to connect with fellow enthusiasts who share his passion.
