Qiu Qing focuses on Japanese history towards the end of the Tokugawa period and the early Meiji. She did her undergraduate thesis on the Japanese physician Hanaoka Seishu, and is broadly interested in East Asian conceptions of the body, its moral and ethical complications, and transmissions between East Asia and the wider Western world. Born and raised Singaporean, she was educated at the National University of Singapore and Waseda University on a double degree programme, which gave her the chance to spend 2 years in Japan. Outside of class, she spent most of her time travelling, cafe hopping, and honing her proficiency in Maimai.
