Presentations in Chinese, with brief summaries in English. The recently excavated materials from the tombs of the Warring States period and the Western Han dynasty have greatly broadened our knowledge of the social practice and religious beliefs of early China. The scholars on the panel will each bring to the discussion topics they have been working on since the discovery of these materials: Professor Liu Guosheng on the relationship of ritual practice to the organization of grave objects; Professor Yan Changgui on the history and myths found in the bamboo strip texts; and Professor Liu Lexian on the social significance of the early almanacs or day books (rishu).
