Paul D. Barclay is Professor and Head of the History Department at Lafayette College in Easton, PA. He is the general editor of the digital repository East Asia Image Collection and author of Outcasts of Empire: Japanese Rule on Taiwan’s “Savage Border” 1874-1945 (Oakland: University of California Press, 2018). His work has also appeared in The Journal of Asian Studies, Japanese Studies, Social Science Japan Journal and in other venues. Barclay’s research has received support from the Richard King Mellon Foundation, the National Endowment from the Humanities, the Social Science Research Council, the Japanese Council for the Promotion of Science, and the Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
